🧼 Keeping Clean and Healthy

Class 1 EVS · Unit 4 of 11 · about 120 minutes

Children learn everyday habits that keep them clean and healthy: washing hands at the right times, brushing teeth, bathing, wearing clean clothes, covering the mouth when sneezing or coughing, and getting enough sleep and play. Each micro-topic starts from a real daily routine at home or school and builds a simple why behind the habit.

What your child will learn

  • Students will name the times when they must wash their hands (before eating, after using the toilet, after playing outside, after touching pets).
  • Students will describe the correct way to brush teeth (twice a day, use a pea-sized amount of toothpaste, brush all sides, rinse).
  • Students will explain why bathing every day and wearing clean clothes keep the body healthy.
  • Students will demonstrate covering the mouth and nose with a hand or handkerchief when sneezing or coughing.
  • Students will state why sleep and play are needed for a healthy body.

Lessons in this unit

  1. Wash Your Hands: When and how to wash hands: before eating, after using the toilet, after playing outside, after touching pets. Use soap and water, rub all parts, rinse, dry with a clean cloth.
  2. Brush Your Teeth: Brushing teeth twice a day: morning and before bed. Use a pea-sized amount of toothpaste, brush all sides, rinse mouth. Why: to remove food bits and keep teeth strong and clean.
  3. Bath and Clean Clothes: Bathing every day removes dirt and sweat from the body. Wearing clean clothes keeps us fresh and free from bad smell. Change clothes daily, especially after playing or sweating.
  4. Cover Your Mouth: When we sneeze or cough, tiny drops come out of our mouth and nose. Cover with a hand or handkerchief to stop the drops from spreading to others. Wash hands after.
  5. Sleep and Play: Our body needs rest and activity. Sleep helps the body rest and grow. Play helps the body become strong. Both are needed every day.

What to watch for

Washing hands with only water is enough.
Help: Soap helps remove dirt and tiny things that make us sick. Water alone does not clean well.
Brushing once a day is enough.
Help: Brush twice a day: once in the morning and once before bed, to remove food and keep teeth clean all day.
Bathing is only needed when you are visibly dirty.
Help: We sweat every day, and sweat can make us smell. Bathing every day keeps us clean even if we don't see dirt.
You only need to cover your mouth when you are sick.
Help: We sneeze for many reasons, like dust or a tickle. Always cover your mouth to be polite and stop drops from spreading.
