🧒 All About Me

Class 1 EVS · Unit 1 of 11 · about 120 minutes

Children explore who they are: their name, age, likes and dislikes, how they are same as and different from friends, and how they have grown from a baby to now. Every micro-topic starts from the child's own life and uses simple observation and comparison with classmates.

What your child will learn

  • Students will state their own name and age and identify their gender.
  • Students will name at least two things they like and two things they dislike, and give a simple reason.
  • Students will compare themselves with a friend on one feature (name, age, likes, hair, height) and say how they are same and different.
  • Students will describe one way they have changed from when they were a baby to now.

Lessons in this unit

  1. My Name and Age: Every child has a name and an age. Saying your name and age clearly. Age is how many years you have lived. Counting up to your age.
  2. What I Like and Dislike: Everyone has likes and dislikes. Naming things you like (food, games, colours) and things you do not like. Giving a simple reason. Respecting that friends may like different things.
  3. Same and Different: Comparing yourself with a friend: name, age, likes, hair, height, eye colour. Using 'same' and 'different'. Celebrating that everyone is special.
  4. Growing Up: Baby to Now: You were a baby. Babies are small, cannot walk, cannot talk, need milk. Now you are bigger, can walk, talk, eat solid food, go to school. You have grown.

What to watch for

Your age is the number of your birthday.
Help: Your age is how many years you have lived. If you are six, you have lived six years.
Everyone likes the same things I like.
Help: Different people like different things. It is okay if your friend likes something you do not.
If we are different, one of us is better.
Help: Different just means not the same. It is not better or worse. Everyone is special.
Babies can walk and talk.
Help: Babies are very small. They cannot walk or talk. They learn these as they grow.

Try this at home

  • Riya says: 'My name is Riya. I am six years old.'
  • Riya says: 'I like mango because it is sweet.'
  • Riya and Arjun both have black hair. Riya is 6 years old and Arjun is 7.
  • When I was a baby, I could not walk. Now I can run.
