Help your child at home
What to watch for
- Washing hands only with water is enough.
- Help: Water alone does not remove germs. Soap is needed to lift them off.
- All waste rots and disappears.
- Help: Only wet waste like food peels rots. Plastic and glass stay for a very long time.
- Throwing waste on the ground is okay because it will disappear.
- Help: Waste does not disappear. It stays and makes the place dirty and can harm animals.
- It is safe to play near the road because you can see cars coming.
- Help: Cars can come fast and drivers may not see you. Always play away from the road.
Try this at home
- Riya shows the steps of washing hands before lunch.
- Meera sorts the waste from her kitchen: banana peel, plastic wrapper, vegetable scraps, glass bottle.
- Arjun has an old glass jar. What can he do instead of throwing it?
- Fatima sees a hot pan on the stove. What should she do?
Quick questions to ask aloud
- Why do we wash our hands before eating? (to remove germs that can make us sick / to make our hands wet / to make the food taste better)
Show answer
to remove germs that can make us sick. Germs are tiny and can make us sick. Washing with soap removes them. - Riya has a banana peel, a plastic bottle and a glass jar. Which one goes in the green bin for wet waste? (banana peel / plastic bottle / glass jar)
Show answer
A banana peel rots, so it is wet waste and goes in the green bin. - What should you do with a wrapper after eating a toffee? (put it in the dustbin / throw it on the ground / keep it in your pocket forever)
Show answer
put it in the dustbin. Putting waste in the dustbin keeps our surroundings clean.
