⏰ Time

Class 4 Maths · Unit 10 of 12 · about 240 minutes

What to watch for

Reading the minute hand as the hour number (e.g., pointing at 9 means 9 minutes).
Help: Count the minute marks from 12. The number 9 is at 45 minutes, not 9 minutes.
12:00 noon is 12:00 a.m.
Help: 12:00 noon is 12:00 p.m. because p.m. starts at noon. 12:00 a.m. is midnight.
1 hour = 100 minutes (because of base-10).
Help: Time uses base-60. There are 60 minutes in 1 hour.
Subtracting minutes and hours separately without regrouping: 9:40 to 10:15 is 1 hour 75 minutes.
Help: Count forward: 9:40 to 10:00 is 20 minutes, then 10:00 to 10:15 is 15 minutes. Total 35 minutes.

Try this at home

  • Count the minute marks from 12 to the minute hand.
  • Label activities with a.m. or p.m.
