What to watch for
- ₹7.5 is the same as ₹7.05
- Help: Always write two digits for paise. 5 paise is 05, so ₹7.05.
- Adding ₹1.50 and ₹2.50 gives ₹3.100
- Help: 50 paise + 50 paise = 100 paise = 1 rupee. So 1.50 + 2.50 = 4.00.
- ₹50.00 - ₹18.40 = ₹32.60
- Help: Borrow 1 rupee = 100 paise. 100 - 40 = 60 paise. Then 49 - 18 = 31 rupees. So ₹31.60.
- Adding the rates instead of multiplying by quantity
- Help: For each item, multiply the rate by the quantity to get the amount.
Try this at home
- Convert ₹5.75 to paise
- Add ₹45.50 and ₹32.25
- Subtract ₹18.40 from ₹50.00
- Bill for 2 pencils at ₹5 each and 3 erasers at ₹2 each
Quick questions to ask aloud
- How many paise are there in 1 rupee? (10 / 100 / 1000 / 50)
Show answer
1 rupee is equal to 100 paise. Just like 1 metre is 100 cm. - Riya buys a notebook for ₹25.50 and a pen for ₹15.25. How much does she spend in total?
Show answer
Add the paise: 50 + 25 = 75. Add the rupees: 25 + 15 = 40. Total is ₹40.75. - Subtract ₹18.40 from ₹50.00.
Show answer
Borrow 1 rupee: 100 - 40 = 60 paise. Then 49 - 18 = 31 rupees. So ₹31.60.
