🛡️ Caring and Safety
Class 2 EVS · Unit 11 of 11 · about 120 minutes
Children learn to keep their surroundings clean by using dustbins, saving water, and helping with small cuts. They also learn basic safety rules for fire and electricity, and how to stay safe at home and school. Every micro-topic uses real situations from home, school, and the neighbourhood.
What your child will learn
- Students will identify places where rubbish should be put (dustbin) and explain why we keep our surroundings clean.
- Students will list ways to save water at home and at school (closing taps, not playing with water, using a mug for brushing).
- Students will describe what to do for a small cut (wash with clean water, apply antiseptic, cover with a bandage) and what not to do (touch with dirty hands, rub).
- Students will identify fire safety rules (don't play with matches, stay away from stoves, tell an adult if you see fire) and what to do if clothes catch fire (stop, drop, roll).
- Students will identify electrical safety rules (don't put fingers in sockets, don't touch switches with wet hands, don't pull wires).
Lessons in this unit
- Keep Our Place Clean: Using dustbins for rubbish, not throwing waste on the ground, and why cleanliness keeps us healthy. Observing where rubbish goes at home and school.
- Save Water: Why water is precious and simple ways to save it: close the tap while brushing, don't play with water, use a mug for washing, tell an adult if a tap is dripping.
- First Aid for Small Cuts: What to do for a small cut: wash with clean water, apply antiseptic, cover with a bandage. What not to do: touch with dirty hands, rub, put mud. When to tell an adult.
- Fire Safety: Fire can burn. Rules: don't play with matches or lighters, stay away from the stove, don't touch hot things. If clothes catch fire: stop, drop, roll. Tell an adult if you see fire.
