🦷 My Body and Good Habits

Class 2 EVS · Unit 2 of 11 · about 120 minutes

Children explore their own body from the outside in: they name and point to outside body parts, learn the five sense organs and what each one does, and discover inside parts they can feel (bones, heart, lungs). They then build good habits for teeth, eyes and ears, and understand why exercise and rest keep the body strong. Every micro-topic starts from a concrete observation of their own body or a simple activity like brushing or blinking.

What your child will learn

  • Students will name and point to the main external body parts (head, eyes, ears, nose, mouth, hands, legs, feet) and describe what each part does.
  • Students will identify the five sense organs and match each to the sense it gives (seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, touching).
  • Students will name at least three inside body parts (bones, heart, lungs) and say what they do in simple words.
  • Students will state and demonstrate good habits for teeth (brush twice daily), eyes (not too close to screen, wash with clean water), and ears (do not put objects in, keep dry).
  • Students will explain why exercise and rest are important for the body and give examples of each.

Lessons in this unit

  1. Outside Body Parts: Name and point to the main external body parts: head, eyes, ears, nose, mouth, hands, legs, feet. What each part does (eyes see, ears hear, nose smells, mouth eats and speaks, hands hold, legs walk, feet stand).
  2. Sense Organs: The five sense organs: eyes (see), ears (hear), nose (smell), tongue (taste), skin (touch). Each sense organ gives us information about the world. Simple activities: close eyes and guess a sound, smell a flower, taste something sweet.
  3. Inside Body Parts: Introduce three inside parts: bones (hard, give shape, help move), heart (beats, pumps blood), lungs (help breathe). Children can feel their own ribs, heartbeat, and breathing.
  4. Good Habits for Teeth, Eyes, Ears: Good habits: teeth – brush twice a day, don't eat too many sweets; eyes – don't read in dim light, don't sit too close to TV/screen, wash eyes with clean water; ears – don't put objects in, keep ears dry, listen at low volume.
  5. Exercise and Rest: Exercise keeps the body strong: running, jumping, playing, yoga. Rest gives the body a break: sleeping, sitting quietly. Both are needed every day.

What to watch for

The nose is only for breathing, not for smelling.
Help: The nose does both: it helps us breathe and smell.
The tongue is only for tasting, not for talking.
Help: The tongue helps us taste and also helps us speak.
The heart is on the left side of the chest only.
Help: The heart is in the middle of the chest, slightly to the left.
Brushing once a day is enough.
Help: Brush twice a day – morning and before bed – to keep teeth clean.

Try this at home
